Dental clinic “Eskulapi” recommends how to behave after tooth extraction

Tips You Should Definitely Consider

Tooth extraction is a rather complex and unpredictable surgical procedure. Like any other surgery, it also has a postoperative period. During this period, the patient plays a particularly important role in the recovery process.

Never apply warm compresses to your face! Heat provokes inflammatory processes. If you feel that wearing a bandage might upset those around you, use only a cold compress!

Do not self-prescribe antibiotics. Nowadays, many people tend to self-medicate. Every medication should be prescribed in a specific dosage for specific cases. Do not stop taking prescribed medication prematurely.

If you experience sharp pain for 2–4 days, do not try to suppress it with painkillers hoping it will go away on its own. Sharp pain is a sign of inflammation — alveolitis. In such cases, consult your doctor immediately.

On the first day, it is not advisable to disturb the wound with frequent rinsing. If the doctor prescribed rinses, it means you should hold the liquid in your mouth and then gently spit it out.

If stitches were necessary after the extraction, the process can develop in two directions:

  1. First – the doctor used self-dissolving sutures and they do not need to be removed.
  2. If the sutures are non-dissolvable, they will be removed on the 5th–7th day. In all cases, you will be informed in advance.

If you still feel that the prescribed treatment is not enough for you, the safest options may be light soda rinses or chamomile decoction for oral baths.

Prepare yourself — everything will be fine!

And the final tip: don’t postpone dental treatment until tomorrow, so that you don’t have to extract the tooth later.
